Back in the saddle

Well sorry I have been out of touch. The health is doing MUCH better. Thank you all so much for the prayers and encouragement.

Camp is up and running again. This comes after a very brief trip back into Cairo for Kids Games opening ceremony. It was pretty amazing. The first lady was not in attendance. But there was a great crowd and I am excited to hear reports of the games over the next 6 weeks.

The camp that kicked off today is for 14-16 year olds. So they are pretty competitive and crazy. At the same time as the camp there is a leadership school going on. My involvement will be more with the school this week.

Today I coached volleyball for the 40 participants in the school. They are from all over the world. Syria, Sudan, South Africa, Poland, Egypt, Morocco, and several other Middle East countries. It was a fun experience.

I will try to update a little more often. But now that things are in full swing it is crazy.

Sick

Well I am still not feeling well. It comes and goes. But now that I am at camp the sun is intensified. So it makes it a little more difficult to recoup. But I just got done eating some special made chicken soup with potatoes and carrots. It was really good. First real food I have had in two days.

First camp started today. Kids seem really excited to be here. First coaching period is later this afternoon.

Well there are officially 3 people reading this. And two of them are my parents. So that doesn't really count. They have to read it. Anybody else out there?

Jet lag

Wow jet lag is not your friend. I have been here for like ten days. And last night it kicked my butt. I woke up at 2 a.m. And then right when I think I am going to fall asleep... call to prayer... right outside my window. Then I think I am going to fall asleep and it starts getting light outside. Needless to say I didn't go back to sleep. Now I am wasted. It is 4 p.m. and I have already been up for 14 hours.

Sidenote: I just got handed one of the best pieces of chocolate cake I have had in a long time.

Sleep tight

Well I am off to bed. I thought I would stop by here first. Today was a good day. But it was surprisingly slow. Alot of times I have to wait on other people to finish their work before I can do mine. So today was a day of waiting. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I head out to camp in 2 days. It will prove to be a nice change of pace and scenery.

GOAL!!!

Went to the Egypt National Team soccer match last night. Very cool experience. They love their soccer around here.

I didn't have it in my heart to tell them that their soccer atmosphere was no match for a good ol' Fighting Texas Aggie football game. I will let them cherish their sport.

Egypt is in the midst of World Cup qualifying. So that added a little excitement to an already raucous crowd.

Oh final score: Egypt 2 Malawi 0!

Another day at work

Well I am sitting in the camp office. It is crazy how much they work around here. 5 or 6 days a week, 10+ hours everyday. But there is still so much work to do.

I am once again in charge of a lot of admin stuff. Budgets, flight schedules, hotel reservations etc. There are multiple teams of American coaches coming in throughout the summer and all of this must be organized. So that is where I come in.

My time here is good so far. Spent the last 2 days relaxing at the Red Sea. That was really nice. Then last night went with some friends for dinner and a movie. Tonight I am going to the Egypt national team soccer match. They have to win to make it to the world cup so it should be very crazy and exciting. I can't wait. I will post pictures and stuff after the game.

Lets try this again

I have tried to no avail on several occasions to blog. It just never seems to work. And I am completely convinced that no one reads this stuff. But here is to giving it another try. I will keep it short and sweet. But I may find myself hitting this place up several times a day.
